USS Kirwin (APD-90)

USS ''Kirwin'' (APD-90), ex-DE-229, later LPR-90, was a United States Navy high-speed transport in commission from 1945 to 1946 and from 1965 to 1969.
==Construction and commissioning==
''Kirwin'' was laid down as the ''Rudderow''-class destroyer escort USS ''Kirwin'' (DE-229) on 14 February 1944 by the Philadelphia Navy Yard at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was launched on 15 June 1944, sponsored by Mrs. Andrew J. Kirwin, the mother of the ships namesake, Lieutenant John J. Kirwin. The ship was reclassified as a ''Crosley''-class high-speed transport and redesignated APD-90 on 17 July 1944. After conversion to her new role, she was commissioned on 4 November 1945 with Lieutenant Commander Lloyd G. Benson, USNR, in command.
